Subsidy project to explore demand and implementation strategy for a future potential air taxi network across the Chubu and Kansai regions, centred on Ise-Shima

‍Mie Prefecture, Japan, 3rd August 2026 - Skyports Infrastructure (Skyports), the global leader in vertiport infrastructure and operations for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), has been appointed by Mitsui Fudosan and Ise-Shima Resort Management Co. to support a Mie Prefecture-backed feasibility study assessing the future deployment of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) across Japan's Chubu and Kansai regions.

The study will evaluate the commercial and operational viability of a future air taxi network centred on Ise-Shima, exploring passenger demand, potential flight routes and the infrastructure required to enable services. Skyports will provide expertise in vertiport planning and infrastructure development, working as part of a consortium led by Mitsui Fudosan & Ise-Shima Resort Management Co, alongside Kintetsu Group Holdings, Aero Toyota, Chubu Electric Power Miraiz, Toyota Motor Corporation and Chubu Centrair International Airport.

As the project's vertiport planning partner, Skyports will support the identification and assessment of potential take-off and landing sites, charging infrastructure requirements and the integration of vertiports with existing transport networks. The study will also examine how future AAM infrastructure could connect seamlessly with rail, road, marine transport, airports and tourism destinations.

The feasibility study aims to position Ise-Shima as a key hub within a wider regional air mobility network, improving connectivity between major metropolitan areas and internationally renowned destinations including Ise Grand Shrine, Toba, Shima, the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes, Mount Koya and Nara.

By evaluating infrastructure requirements alongside passenger demand and operational considerations, the project will establish the conditions necessary for future commercial air taxi operations while supporting wider regional goals around tourism, transport accessibility and network resilience.
